Party Foul

|

Even though the score was 37-0 in the 4th quarter (Yeah Terps!) there still was plenty of business going on down on the field. Check this penalty out:

I don't know about you but whatever it was I'm pretty sure it isn't the kind of business you want.

Soccer Ends

|

It was back in August when I posted about Soccer Beginning and I haven't made a single post since then. Well last week soccer officially ended (there actually are 3 more practices left but they aren't my practices to run...woo hoo). Coaching 3 teams took a lot out of my evenings and weekends but we had a blast. The two youngest boys had great years. They played well and scored a lot of goals. The oldest is just starting to learn how hard soccer really can be when the boys on the other team are all just as fast and just as tough as his team.

It will be nice to step it down a notch from super-dad to regular-dad. For basketball and lacrosse I'm just a helper and a spectator and that is fine by me.

Soccer Begins

|

Soccer is in full swing for the Levay family. All three boys have started practicing and even I had my first real outdoor game in years last night. We played well but lost mainly because the other team had a ringer. He had 3 goals in the first-half and put in 2 more in the second-half. It is hard to stop a guy that is twice as fast as anyone else on the field.

The team gave me the opportunity to try and stop him in the middle of the second half and I got my first red card ever trying. He had me beat and as I was going down I was pulling him down with me (didn't work...he stayed on his feet and kept on going). Add to that a referee that doesn't know what "advantage" means and I get a red card.

I really think most of these refs are doing it for the money and don't even have a passion for the game. Most won't run up and down the field. Most can't make an "advantage" or "offsides" call. And most don't know how to control a game when things get ugly. I guess you get what you get in county rec ball and have to match your game up with the way it is being called. For any of you refs out there that read this blog there are plenty of places for you to train up: here, here and here.

Yeah Maryland!

The Terps saved their best basketball play for tonight. Not only did they beat the number five team in the country but they they came from 12 back with 7 minutes to go to do it. Very impressive. They are peeking at the perfect time and with this win there is no way they'll be watching the tournament on their couches from College Park this year.

Bracketology had the Terps at a 9 seed almost a week ago. How high will that number go come tournament time? A 5 would be nice.

So the door is now open for Virginia Tech, Virginia and BC to take the ACC title. Please address your thank you cards to Gary Williams, Comcast Center, College Park, MD 20742.

Vick'tor, Not Today

|

It was another perfect day for football. The temperature was just about 50 degrees with a slight breeze blowing through the stadium and the Falcons were in town visiting the Ravens. It was an ugly first half of football for the Ravens and the entire row of Falcon VIP's sitting behind us were sure letting us know. To them Vick is the second coming. To the rest of us football loving fantasy players we knew the real Vick wasn't far away.

And in the second half the real Michael Vick showed up along with the real Ravens. Luckily the drunk guys in our section took care of letting the Falcon VIP's know who the ruler of this field was. Way to go Ravens! 8-2 and playoff bound!

Survivor Football

|

It is Survivor Football time! This is probably the easiest football pool of all time. This week you pick one NFL game and pick the winner (no spread). Get it wrong and you are out. Get it right and you move on to pick again next week. Once you pick a winner you can never pick that team again. Last man standing wins.

Feel free to join us and invite your friends. There are two pools; one starting Week #1 and another starting Week #5 for everyone that gets ousted early. You can sign up for one or both.

The deadline to register for the Week #1 pool is Sunday at 1pm. Pittsburgh and Miami are out of play for this week since that game has already started.

It was a good season

The Redskins were eliminated from the playoffs today and it shouldn't be a time to be sad and to pout. They overachieved this year and it was a miracle they were even in the playoffs. Looking to next year they are a few positions away from having a power house of a team. A new QB to replace the geriatric Brunell. A new WR to complement Moss. And a couple big linemen on both sides of the ball. Lookout Miam, here we come!
