Nerdiness

A colleague of mine (David Morse) points to a Nerd Test in which he scored a 83. When you take a test like this what do you really want the outcome to be. The competitive part of me wanted to beat that 83 and be more nerdy, but the cool happening-dude part of me wanted me to score a 12. The outcome. I'm a geek too.

I am nerdier than 83% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

I bet you Dave and Charlie score in the 90's!

UPDATE: The wife scored an 88. I guess I should go back to college.

Java Web Development

I should have posted this one a couple of weeks ago. I teach a Java Web Programming course at a local college and I'm using a blog to deliver the course. You can follow along if you like. I'm not sure you'll get much out of the lecture slides without being there, but if you have a question go ahead and ask away!

Lips of an Angel

Whenever my wife leaves for a business trip I always charge and sync up her iPod. I think it is my job now. After this last trip she came home with questions about a specific song I bought. I can honestly say I just liked the tune and never paid much attention to the words, but I think I should start paying more attention to avoid the discussions this one created.

The song is called Lips of an Angel (need iTunes for these song links to work), by Hinder

You hear the words "Lips of an Angel" over and over again in the chorus and you think it is a great love song. But as soon as you throw in some of the other lyrics it goes down hill fast:

It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And yes I've dreamt of you too
And does he know you're talking to me
Will it start a fight
No I don't think she has a clue
Well my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel

Can you feel the love now? I'm thinking with the next iPod sync I'll add Crazy Bitch, Battleship Chains and I Write Sins Not Tragedies

Piggy Bank

The two younger boys have been very interested in their piggy banks lately. Mostly it has been to empty them out, fill them back up and ask Daddy for some more money. This got me thinking, is a piggy bank the best way to teach a child to save? Sure it is, if, when you really empty it you take most of it to the bank and use a little bit to buy something fun.

Then I saw this piggy bank and I think it describes everything we should be teaching our children about finances. Save. Spend. Donate. Invest. Now instead of going to the bank and Toys R' Us when emptying the piggies we'll have to stop by church and T. Rowe Price. The only thing I see wrong with the pig is the portion sizes. If it is supposed to mimic reality the entire pig would be Spend and the the snout would be split between Save, Donate, and Invest.

Top 10

I think everyone at HP is just hoping this board spying scandal goes away quickly. It is definitely not the type of press we want and for the 99.99% of us that weren't involved it is taking away press on all the good things we do. And you know it is bad when the comedians get into the game. Check out Letterman's Top Ten from last night.

Survivor Football

It is Survivor Football time! This is probably the easiest football pool of all time. This week you pick one NFL game and pick the winner (no spread). Get it wrong and you are out. Get it right and you move on to pick again next week. Once you pick a winner you can never pick that team again. Last man standing wins.

Feel free to join us and invite your friends. There are two pools; one starting Week #1 and another starting Week #5 for everyone that gets ousted early. You can sign up for one or both.

The deadline to register for the Week #1 pool is Sunday at 1pm. Pittsburgh and Miami are out of play for this week since that game has already started.
